Registering the BioBody program:

BioBody installs as a 30 day trial, and turns into a registered copy when you enter your registration information.  You do not need to reinstall BioBody if you already have the trial version installed.   You can view the trial days remaining by choosing "Menu" and "About" from the menu.  The program is fully functional during the trial period.  BioBody registration is available directly through this web site, or from Handango, PocketGear, or PocketPCFanatic.  See the purchase page for details.  Once you receive your confirmation e-mail after purchase, find the User Number and PIN.  These are both numbers with no letters or hyphens included.  Codes received from Handango or PocketGear will look like this: UserName:(YourName)UserNumber:111PIN:22222.

In this example, the user number would be 111, and the PIN is 22222.  Start BioBody and click "Menu", then "About", then the "Register" button.  Enter your name, the User Number, and the PIN in the appropriate boxes and click "OK".   For more information on entering your registration information, see the registration how-to page.

Using the "Today" screen:

biotoday.gif (18138 bytes)

BioBody provides its own "Today" view.  Please note that this is entirely separate from the "Today" page on your Pocket PC.  This page provides an overview of your goals, as well as your meals and workouts for the day.   Meals are shown if they are scheduled for later than the current time on the current day.   Tapping on the large icons will take you to the workout (if a workout is scheduled for that day), food, or goals areas.

Upgrading from a prior version

Click "Menu" and "Options" and click the "Import" button if you were a BioBody 1.x user and wish to import your data into the new version.

The options screen

Automatically pull in the data from the last time I exercised that body part.   This option, when checked, fills in the exercises for each body part with the exercises you used last time.  Unchecking this option will start you with a blank exercise screen each time you tap on a body part.

When I change the first strength exercise, pull in all the sets I used the last time I did that exercise.   When this option is checked, if you change the first exercise for a body part, BioBody will look up the last time you did that exercise first, and pull in the remaining data from that prior workout.  Checking this option also makes the next option listed below visible:

If prior sets are not found, fill in the first five sets with the same exercise.   Body For Life participants typically do the same exercise for the first five sets of a body part.  Checking this option will allow you to pick the first exercise, and the next four will automatically change to show the same exercise as the first one.   People not following the Body For Life program will probably wish to leave this unchecked.

Keep all screens on the same date:  When unchecked, you can have the aerobic, strength, and food screens all on different days.  When checked, changing the date on one screen changes the date on all other screens.

Treat upper and lower body workouts on the same date as one workout:  If you typically do no more than one strength workout in a day, and do some upper body and some lower body exercises during that workout, then check this option.  A check here will "link" the upper body and lower body screens, so they function as one workout.  If you always do upper body and lower body separately, leave this option unchecked.  When unchecked, the upper body and lower body screens function independently of one another, and checking both upper body and lower body complete will reflect two completed workouts on that day.

Show the 20 intensity rating boxes for aerobic exercise.  If you do not do the Body For Life style aerobic workouts, leave this unchecked.

Enter and edit a  strength workout:

bioupper.gif (6438 bytes)

Choose the appropriate tab for "Upper Body" or "Lower Body" workout.  Then, click the icon at the bottom for the body part you want to exercise.   The upper body choices are "chest", "shoulders", "back", "triceps", "biceps", and the question mark icon is for "miscellaneous" exercises.  The lower body choices are "quads", "hamstrings", "calves", and "abs", and you have two miscellaneous sections.  On the next screen, you can begin by choosing an exercise from the drop down list at the top left of the screen.  If the exercise you want is not in the drop down list, you may type it in the box, but adding it to the drop down menu is recommended.  Click on the list.gif (871 bytes) icon at the bottom left of the screen to add your exercises to the current body part's list.  See this section for more information.   Then fill in the weight, reps, and if you desire you may enter the rest time between sets, and rating of intensity.   The intensity rating is a 1-10 rating of how difficult you perceived that set of exercises to be.  Also note that the drop down list for repetitions goes from 1-20 with version 2.0, and you may also type in whatever you would like in this box.  So if you decide to do 90 repetitions, just pop up the keyboard and type that in.  You can do as many as 12 different sets for each body part.  This now allows you to enter as many as 144 different sets of resistive exercises per day!   You may also now use decimals when entering your weight lifted.

You can enter a start time and an end time if you'd like, and your total workout time will be calculated for you.  Tapping on the 'clock' icons will adjust the time in that box to the current time.  Or simply adjust the total time directly.  Once you are finished adding the exercises for all the body parts, you can mark the workout as completed and add any notes you'd like for that day.

bioweightentry.gif (6772 bytes)

If you'd like to clear a row of exercises, clear everything below the current row, or clear the entire exercise entry sheet, choose "clear" from the menu below.  The current row in the exercise screen is indicated by a red number with yellow highlight (number 4 in the photo above).  You can change the current row by tapping on the "exercise" drop down boxes for that row.  If you decide to abandon your changes, use the red X cancel button at the bottom of the screen.

If you need to edit a section later, you can click on that body part icon again from the bottom of the screen, or use "tap and hold" over the list.  You can delete the exercises for a body part by tapping and holding and choosing "delete".  To delete just one set from a body part, just open the edit screen and clear out the exercise name for that set.

Enter an aerobic workout:

bioaerobic.gif (6365 bytes)

The aerobic section has been redesigned for version 2.0.  You can now add as many as three aerobic workouts for each day.  When you click on the aerobic tab (near the bottom with the heart icon) you will see areas for entering the type of exercise (swim, bike, run, etc.) and course.  You can change the items that appear in the course and aerobic lists by clicking on the icon just to the right of the list, and by following instructions in this section.   You can enter a start and end time for your workout if you choose (tapping on the clock icon adjusts the time in that box to the current time), or just adjust the elapsed time directly.  Enter a distance (decimals are OK) and average heart rate if you choose.  Enter notes in the designated area.

Some exercise programs like Body For Life call for 20 minute workouts, and ask you to rate the intensity of each minute of your 20 minute workout.  If you would like to see the 20 boxes for entering this, you must enable it in the options screen.  You will then see the drop down boxes near the bottom of the aerobic screen.

Should you choose to do another aerobic exercise for that day, click the button labeled "Add Another Ex. Today" near the bottom left of the screen.  Clicking this button adds another exercise for that day.  Now, the bottom left button text will change, indicating a click there will take you back to that day's first exercise, and another button will pop up near the bottom right, offering you the opportunity to add a third exercise for that day.  Fill in the second and third exercises for each day just as you did for the first exercise.  Don't forget to mark the exercise as "completed" when you are done!  You can delete an aerobic exercise using the "delete" button.

Enter and edit a meal:

biofood.gif (5582 bytes)

Choose the "add meal" sandwich icon at the bottom of the screen to add a meal.  Then choose the time from the top time picker (it automatically defaults to the current time) and choose your food items from the drop down lists, or type in your own.

bioenterfood.gif (6174 bytes)

There are areas to enter protein, carbohydrate, vegetable, and other/supplement intake.   To change the items that appear in the drop down list, click the icon just to the right of the list item you want to change, and follow these instructions.  Click OK when done entering a meal.  To edit a meal after you have entered it, tap and hold on that meal and choose "edit."

New to version 2.0 are additional measurement areas.  The measurements now included are weight, water intake, sleep, sleep quality (rating from 0-10), % body fat, blood pressure, resting heart rate, overall feeling for the day (0-10 rating), and measurements for chest, biceps, waist, quads, and calves.

Changing the drop down list choices:

biosetuplist.gif (3870 bytes)

When you see the list icon in BioBody, you can tap that button to change the drop down choices for that list.  From the screen that appears, type in any item you would like to add to the choices into the text box beside the "add" button.  Then click "add." You may also remove items from the list by tapping on them to highlight them and choosing "delete".  Click OK when you are done.

Overview of reports view:

bioweightgraph.gif (4008 bytes)

Begin by choosing the report you want from the top left box.  Then choose the time frame from the top right box.  Some reports allow you to filter what you see in the report by adding a third box near the bottom of the graph, or a box between the top two drop down lists.  This is used for graphing exercises.  For example, if you want to see the weight you used on your last set of chest exercises, but you only want to graph what you did on the bench press and not include dumbbell flyes, you'd choose "bench press" from the drop down list that appears at the bottom of the screen.

Remember, if a workout is not marked as completed, it will not show up in the graphs!

biochestgraph.gif (4529 bytes)

The "Workouts Per Week" report counts up the workouts marked as completed for the specified time frame.  There is a gray line at 6 workouts per week to help you read the graph more easily.

bioworkgraph.gif (5152 bytes)

You can also graph things like water intake, blood pressure, hours of sleep, and many more!   The new graphs section allows over 600 different combinations of graphs to be displayed, in an easy to use format!

The Utility Section

biobackup.gif (12792 bytes)

With version 2.0, all utilities are included from within BioBody.  There is no longer a need for a separate BioBackup utility.  This provides a way for you to back up your BioBody data, as well as compacting your database and exporting the food and workout info to the desktop.   BioBody exports to comma separated files which can be easily imported into Excel or Access.  To make a backup:  Choose "Menu" and then "Utilities".   Choose the "Backup" option, and your BioBody will be backed up to a file (this file will be called "Default.bio" for the standard version, and for the multi user version, the file name will be the same as that user's name, with the .bio file extension).   This file will be placed in the My Documents folder of your Pocket PC.   You can keep this file in a safe location (if you have file synchronization enabled in ActiveSync®, it will be automatically copied to the desktop at your next sync).

To restore your BioBody data, make sure that the Default.bio file (or the appropriate *.bio file for the user, if you are using the multi user edition) is in the "My Documents" folder of your Pocket PC, and choose "Restore" in BioBackup.  Remember, any current BioBody data on the Pocket PC for that user will be removed and replaced with the data in the Backup.bio file!

To export to a .csv file, choose "Export to CSV".  This will place six files in the "My Documents" folder of your Pocket PC.  These will be bioupper.csv, bioupper2.csv, biolower.csv, biolower2.csv, bioaerobic.csv, and biofood.csv.  If you copy these files to your desktop computer you can import them into Excel or Access, and view, print, or create new reports with the information.

"Compact" optimizes your BioBody data to save space and optimize performance.  Workout data you have entered will remain on the device.

Adding a photo to view

You can use the "View Photo" menu choice in BioBody to view a photo or image that you find inspirational.  Maybe that is a "before" picture, or a picture of someone you would like to look like, or just anything that motivates you!   To add a photo, place a 240x290 jpg called "picture.jpg" in the "Program Files\BioBody" folder on your Pocket PC (or on the storage card, if you installed BioBody there).  The photo will then be available for the photo viewer by choosing "Menu" and "View Photo".

Customizing the program graphics

Some of the graphics used in BioBody are stored in the "Program Files\BioBody" directory on your Pocket PC.  You can customize these images however you see fit, or download some different images from the download section!

Restoring a user from a backup

First load BioBody and create the user you wish to restore.  For example, if your backup data were for a user called "Mike", create a new user called Mike using the steps listed above.  Then, place the Mike.bio file you made with a previous backup in the My Documents folder of the Pocket PC.  Then choose "Restore" from the menu.  If any data exists for the user "Mike", that data will be replaced with the data in the Mike.bio file.
